No complaint
The Oster Professional Popcorn Maker is my second popcorn maker in this size. The one I have before the Oster was a kind of Coca-Cola collectible and it has been served as a nice decor for my home theater. Now I finally have a popcorn maker that could serve its original purpose.
First of all, I am OK with the size. I know that the Oster Professional Popcorn Maker has a small pan compared with a commercial one you see in the theater, however, it perfectly fits for me. The outer case of the Oster is entirely plastic and only the moving parts and the pan are made of stainless steel. So do not expect the quality of a popcorn maker you see in commercial places. The Oster serves 8 cups of popcorns and that is just enough for me (8 cups are not that big, though). Cleanup process was easier than I expected. You just take out the pan and wash it. You need to clean up inside of the housing once in a while because it would get messier over time. I used popcorn packs from...
Nostalgic and Neat
The first thing I need to say about this popcorn popper is that it is not a "professional" corn popper.
It is a novelty machine for home use. A number of reviewers have commented upon the small capacity of the popping bowl itself. I see no problem with this since capacity is a trade off between size and being able to pop the corn without burning it.
To increase capacity without burning the corn, you would need to double the width of the popping device. I have an air popping machine that has twice the capacity to pop corn as this machine and the heating area is THREE TIMES as large as this popping element.
I don't know about you but I don't have any kitchen area large enough to hold a machine with a popping element 3 times the size of this and would have the look of an old fashioned machine like I used to see at the movie theaters as a kid.
On the positive side after the initial 4-5 minute warm up period you can pop subsequent batches in less than 3...
Excellent Family Popcorn Maker
Our four kids all like our old Stir Crazy popcorn maker, but this one tops it! The kids were excited as we opened it (it is packaged well) and couldn't wait to make the first batch.
The machine is easy to set up, easy to use, and relatively easy to clean. I would have no problem letting my 10 year old make a batch of popcorn. The only thing that gets really hot is the silver bowl inside (which can't be touched unless the door is opened). So it's great if your kids love to watch it pop - not too dangerous.
As another reviewer said, it doesn't fit under most countertops, so it isn't easy to store. The cord could be longer, but it didn't bother me too much. There are a lot of plastic parts on this machine (the windows are not glass), but I'm OK with that because it seems pretty sturdy. If it breaks within a year, I'll post here and let readers know.
All in all, we really like this machine and would recommend it (my kids would recommend it too!).
